Paintings by Rothko at Tate Modern have been on show at the gallery ever since the artist gifted them to them back in the 1960s. Now the entire Rothko Seagram collection, originally designed to hang at the Four Seasons restaurant in New York, has been brought together in London for the first time at Tate Modern.

Visitors have been able to witness the epic scale of works by Rothko at Tate Modern for many years, and his large and imposing canvases have always been located in the Rothko Room. Bringing all 15 of the Seagram paintings together for one exhibition, the show is sure to be a huge pull for any Rothko fan or those with a love for abstract expressionism.

An unprecedented exhibition of his later works, the show by Rothko at Tate Modern is simply eponymously titled and concentrates on his large scale murals for which he is mainly known. At the heart of the Rothko exhibition are the Seagram paintings, but there are also works included in the show from collections in Japan and Washington.

On show at the Tate Modern will be also be a selection of large scale gouache paintings, as well as fascinating archival material that will reveal the history of the Tate's Rothko Room, which made the transition from the old Tate (what is now Tate Britain) to the modern art gallery when it opened in 2000. The Blackform paintings, large works on paper and the Black on Grey series which were created during the his last working years, will form part of the Rothko exhibition too.

Set to be the exhibition of the winter in London, the display of works by Rothko at Tate Modern will bring a new and vibrant perspective to the works that many are so familiar with. Even those who have visited the Rothko Room at the Tate before, and feel they know the works well will be bowled over by the entire Seagram collection and the exhibition as a whole.
